lucasfilm Lucasfilm is very sorry to learn of the passing of Charles White III, who, with Drew Struzan, created the iconic Star Wars Style D “Circus” poster for the 1978 general release of A New Hope. White created the airbrushed figures of the droids, Darth Vader, the landspeeder and other images, while Struzan provided the Luke, Leia, Han and Obi-Wan portraits. The “Circus” poster, which captured the ’30s swashbuckling appeal of the movie that marketers were eager to convey, is widely regarded as one of the most inspired Star Wars posters ever produced. Charles White III will be missed.
